Thank goodness my kids like broccoli

NO, I am not one of those moms who grinds her own wheat and reads every label. Nothing wrong with that, in fact I wish I was a little more that way. My kids do eat taco bell once in a while and I’ve been known to let my kids grab a chocolate chip cookie on the way to school when we had nothing for breakfast. BAD MOM. I do try to make sure they are getting something nutritious at least every day however. My kids love broccoli. They eat it like candy. Thank goodness there are a few things I know I can give them that they love and are really good for them. This year in the garden, instead of planting rows and rows of radishes (just because I know the grow really easily and they look pretty in the garden) I planted tons of broccoli and the things we eat (Romain lettuce too). I have broccoli coming out my ears. I probably have about 14 more heads just like the photo. It is already getting a little warmer and my broccoli is days from flowering. Since I don’t think my kids will eat flowers I am going to have to go cut it all out. I suppose I’ll freeze it… I’m going to miss having fresh broccoli and letuce when I’m in a pinch. So yummy just breaking off a piece and having a snack. So fresh and so different from the store. Good by broccoli until next winter.

So today I’m thankful for good food and being blessed with plenty for my family. Seems simple, but don’t we take that for granted so much today. It hasn’t always been this way and for a lot of people it isn’t this way. My family is very blessed.

January 13, 2010 - 11:15 pm Sarah Stephens - This is turning into one of my favorite blogs! I love it Ashley. I can't wait for the post about how Chad got all his nicknames. ;) I appreciated your words on marriage. I couldn't have said it better. It's tough and sometimes not too pretty but it can be so worth it. Do you guys want to go out sometime?
