How I finally got my canoe

Up at the

Homestead

there is a small man made lake that the Whitings call Donut lake (because it is a circle with a small island in the middle). I have always wanted to have a canoe ever since I went canoeing down the

Verde River

with the youth as a Young Women. I thought the kids would love rowing around

Donut

Lake

. I went into Show Low to see what the prices were like. I called my dad to see if he knew anywhere to find a boat up there. He wasn’t really sure but pointed me in some directions. I went to the Boat place and asked them for their cheapest canoe. He said that he had a fiberglass one with holes in it that I could patch up for $700. (NO THANKS)

As I was pulling away my dad called me and said, “You are never going to guess what I just saw on the side of Main St. in Snowflake with a big for sale sign on it”.

You guessed it. I got my canoe. What are the chances? I paid less than ½ that for a really nice one with no holes! We had so much fun with that canoe. Donut lake was plenty thrilling for the little ones, however, I can’t wait to take it down some white water. Cozie was sure that there were all kinds of crazy creatures in the lake and begged me to not tip her in. We did see a water snake, that we decided to kept a secret from Coz.
